Building Products Digest Recognizes Great Southern

ABBEVILLE -- For the fourth consecutive year, Great Southern Wood Preserving, Inc., has been named the number two manufacturer of pressure-treated lumber products in the United States by Building Products Digest. The listing was published in the magazine's April 2005 issue in which it recognizes the industry's "Top 25 Treaters."

Great Southern Wood was founded in 1970 in the small town of Abbeville, Alabama, and over the past 30-plus years has added six treating plants in strategic locations across the South. In addition to its plant in Abbeville, Great Southern operates facilities in Mobile and Muscle Shoals, Alabama; Conyers and Statesboro, Georgia; Sumter County, Florida; and Columbus, Texas. The company also plans to open a new facility in Jesup, Georgia, in the summer of 2005.

Great Southern credits its growth to a highly successful marketing campaign which has consumers across the South looking for the famous "Yella tag." "We're extremely proud of the accomplishment," said Jimmy Rane, President and CEO. "This honor is a true testament to the hard work and dedication of our excellent staff. They all take great pride in what they do, and the result is evident in this ranking."

Great Southern offers a wide variety of building products, including YellaWood® brand pressure-treated pine for outdoor projects like decks and fences; N-Durz® brand borate treated wood for whole house protection against the Formosan termite; and TimberTech® for an alternative decking material. The company provides specialty products, fire retardant lumber and plywood and also offers a water repellent treatment.
